Jury rules against doctor in infant death case

Sometimes, infants experience medical problems that require care from medical professionals. When a medical professional is providing care to an infant, it is very important for the medical professional to make sure to not act negligently. Given how small and vulnerable infants are, medical negligence can be particularly impactful on them.

Medical negligence can cause infants to suffer severe injuries. Medical negligence can sometimes even result in an infant's death. One hopes that medical professionals are held accountable when they engage in negligence which results in an infant getting hurt or dying.

Recently, a verdict was reached in a wrongful death case that involved allegations of negligent infant care. The case involved a doctor in Kentucky.

Reportedly, in 2010, the doctor provided care to a 2-month-old infant who was showing signs of bronchiolitis. During this care, the doctor intubated the infant. It was alleged that the doctor acted negligently during the intubation process and failed to intubate the infant properly. This allegedly resulted in the infant dying of suffocation.

It was further alleged that the doctor's employer failed to properly supervise the doctor in relation to this incident.

The infant's parents brought a lawsuit in a court in Kentucky against the doctor and the doctor's employer in connection to these allegations. A trial was held on this matter. The trial went for 15 days.

The jury in this case recently reached its verdict. The jury ruled against the doctor and his employer and awarded a large monetary judgment to the infant's parents.
