Woman claims medical negligence led to her suffering infection

Infections can cause a great deal of harm to patients. Thus, it is very important for medical professionals and medical facilities to not engage in negligence which could result in patients suffering infections.

Recently, a case has arisen involving allegations of the above-mentioned type of negligence. The case is from Louisiana.

Reportedly, in April 2010, a woman had a surgery at a hospital in Louisiana. The case involves an incident that allegedly occurred during the woman's post-surgical care. The woman alleges that a nurse at the hospital dropped her IV on the floor and that the IV was then reused rather than her being given a new, sterile, IV. According to the woman, the IV became contaminated as a result of being dropped on the floor and the reuse of the IV after it had been dropped on the floor caused her to develop a staph infection.

The woman claims that the hospital failed to train its staff properly and failed to take proper steps to prevent the above-mentioned incident.

A lawsuit has been brought in a court in Louisiana by the woman and her husband against the hospital in connection to the above allegations. Reportedly, the woman and her husband are asking for damages in this lawsuit.

No patient should have to suffer an infection because a medical professional or medical facility failed to act properly. Thus, one hopes that all medical professionals and medical facilities make sure to not act negligently when it comes to the cleanliness of instruments and equipment used on patients. One also hopes that medical professionals and medical facilities are held accountable when they commit negligence and such negligence results in a patient suffering infections or other harms.
