Doctor sued in connection to patient's death

Diagnosis-related negligence can be a very serious matter. Such medical negligence can sometimes even result in a patient dying. Thus, it is very important for medical professionals to act properly when it comes to the examining, testing and diagnosing of patients.

Recently, a case involving allegations of the above-mentioned type of medical negligence has arisen in West Virginia. The case involves a now-deceased man who received care at a hospital in West Virginia in September 2011.

The man's wife alleges that, during the course of this care, a doctor failed to respond properly to symptoms the man had and the results of an EKG that had been performed on the man (the EKG's results reportedly indicated abnormalities). The man's wife claims that this alleged negligence caused there to be a delay in the detection and treatment of a condition the man had and ultimately resulted in the man's death. The man died on Sept. 16, 2011.

The man's wife has brought a lawsuit in a court in West Virginia against the doctor in connection to the above allegations. It has been reported that punitive and compensatory damages are being sought in this lawsuit.

As the allegations in this case illustrate, diagnosis-related negligence can be very harmful. Thus, one hopes that all medical professionals make sure to avoid committing negligence like that alleged in this case. One also hopes that medical professionals are held accountable when they commit diagnosis-related negligence and such negligence results in a patient getting hurt or dying.
