Jury reaches decision in wrongful death case

It can be very harmful when hospitals and their staff members commit negligence while providing care to patients. Tragically, such negligence can sometimes even result in a patient's death.

Recently, a jury reached its decision in a wrongful death case that involved allegations of medical negligence. The case was from Illinois. The case involved a man who received care at a hospital in Illinois in July 2002 after having undergone an asthma attack.

The man's family alleged that hospital staff acted negligently in connection to this care. According to the man's family, included among the alleged negligent actions of the medical staff of the hospital were a failure to administer a test that should have been done and a failure to properly monitor the man.

The man's family claimed that the alleged negligence of the hospital staff caused the man to suffer serious injuries and contributed to his eventual death. The man's death occurred in September 2006.

A lawsuit was brought in a court in Illinois by the man's family in connection to these allegations. A trial was held on this matter and the jury in this case recently reached a verdict. The jury ruled in favor of the man's family and awarded them a large monetary judgment.

No patient should have to lose his or her life because a hospital and its staff acted negligently in connection to his or her care. Thus, one hopes that medical care providers (such as hospitals) are held accountable when they fail to act properly when it comes to patient care and such negligence results in a patient suffering injuries and/or dying.
