Hospital accused of medical equipment-related negligence

It is very important for medical professionals and hospitals to act properly when it comes to the care of patients. This includes making sure to not act negligently when it comes to the medical equipment that is used on patients. Such negligence can be very harmful to patients and their families.

Recently, a case involving allegations of this type of negligence has arisen in Louisiana. The case involves a man who reportedly underwent an endoscopic procedure at a hospital in Louisiana.

The man's wife alleges that the hospital acted negligently in regards to one of the medical devices that was reportedly used during this endoscopic procedure. Specifically, the man's wife claims that the hospital failed to properly sterilize the device before using the device during the man's procedure. Allegedly, this alleged improper sterilization could have exposed the man to the possibility of contracting certain infectious diseases. According to the man's wife, the man's family was informed of the alleged improper sterilization by a letter that was sent to them by the hospital.

The man's wife claims that the alleged negligence by the hospital caused her family to suffer a variety of harms including:

  • Fear of contracting infectious diseases
  • Mental anguish
  • Emotional distress
  • Medical expenses

The man's wife has brought a lawsuit on behalf of the man's estate against the hospital in connection to these allegations. This lawsuit reportedly is asking for damages.

As the allegations in this case illustrate, medical device-related negligence by hospitals or medical professionals can be quite harmful. Thus, one hopes that all hospitals and medical professionals make sure to not commit negligence when it comes to medical equipment that is used on patients.
