Settlement reached in medical negligence case

If medical professionals and hospitals provide a patient with negligent care in connection to a medical procedure, the patient in question can suffer great harm. Thus, it is very important for medical professionals and hospitals to make sure to provide their patients with proper care.

Recently, an Iowa case involving allegations of medical negligence was settled. The case involved a girl from Iowa. In 2007, the girl reportedly underwent a surgery related to an intestinal condition at an Iowa hospital. Allegedly, the girl developed a condition called compartment syndrome in her legs while at the hospital. The girl reportedly eventually had to have her lower right leg amputated.

The girl's mother alleged that the hospital's staff was negligent in its care of the girl. According to the mother, the staff failed to provide the girl with proper care when it came to her legs and the above-mentioned compartment syndrome. The mother claimed that had this negligence not occurred, the above-mentioned amputation may have been prevented.

The girl's mother brought a lawsuit on behalf of the girl against the hospital in connection to these allegations. As we mentioned above, this lawsuit was recently settled. Reportedly, as part of the settlement, a large monetary payment will be made.

As the allegations in this case demonstrate, patients can suffer great harm when they receive negligent care from hospitals and/or medical professionals. One hopes that hospitals and medical professionals are held accountable when they commit negligence against a patient and such negligence results in the patient getting hurt.
