Former wrestlers sue WWE over possible CTE link

A group of former professional wrestlers claim in a class action lawsuit filed on July 18 against the Connecticut-based World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc., that their sport increases the likelihood of developing the neurodegenerative disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy. The progressive condition has been found in the brains of deceased college and professional football players and is thought by many medical experts to be widespread among players of other contact sports like rugby, boxing and wrestling.

Some horrifying medical mistakes

Hospital errors happen across the globe. What some people might not realize is that doctors are sometimes the cause of fatalities. Connecticut patients may want to be more vigilant after learning of some of the most horrifying medical malpractice lawsuits that have been filed.

The importance of a timely diagnosis

For Connecticut patients with Lyme disease, it may be months or years before they are properly diagnosed. This is in large part because Lyme mimics the symptoms of other conditions such as ALS or rheumatoid arthritis. Common symptoms include depression, insomnia and muscle pain. One of the reasons why it can be so hard to diagnose is because a tick bite that leads to Lyme could occur in a spot on the body that is hard to see.

Researchers suggest ways to improve surgical training

Connecticut residents may know that surgeons usually perform operations on cadavers during their training. While this type of practice may be designed to prevent mistakes being made on live patients, researchers from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine believe that improvements could be made that would further reduce the risks of surgical errors. The results of the research were released on June 29 prior to being published in the Journal of Surgical Education.
