Jury rules against obstetrician in birth injury case

During deliveries, both the child being delivered and the mother can be very vulnerable. When doctors act negligently in relation to a delivery, it can result in both the mother and the child suffering significant injuries. The effects of such injuries can be long-lasting and severe.

Thus, it is very important for doctors here in Connecticut to act properly when providing delivery-related care. This includes making sure to make proper decisions when it comes to how a delivery is to be done. Such decisions can have substantial impacts.

Recently, in another state, a jury reached its verdict in a case that involved a delivery and allegations of negligence.

The case involved an obstetrician in Pennsylvania. According to a woman, in 2009, the obstetrician delivered her daughter. The woman alleged that the obstetrician made a negligent decision in relation to the delivery. Specifically, the woman claimed that the obstetrician decided to perform a traditional delivery when he should have instead opted to perform a cesarean section.

According to the woman, this decision led to complications occurring during the delivery which caused her and her daughter to suffer injuries. The woman's daughter has mild cerebral palsy.

A lawsuit was brought against the obstetrician in relation to these allegations. A trial was held in relation to this matter. The trial lasted for four days. Last Saturday, the jury reached its decision. According to the article on the Morning Call's website which reported this story, the jury ruled against the obstetrician and awarded the woman and her daughter a monetary judgment.
