Woman brings lawsuit alleging post-surgical negligence

When one thinks of harmful surgery-related negligence, one might immediately think of negligence that occurs during a surgery. However, a patient can also suffer great harm when a medical professional or medical facility fails to act properly after a surgery.

It is very important for medical professionals and medical facilities to act properly when providing patients with post-surgical care. This includes keeping an eye out for complications and providing prompt treatment for complications that do develop. When a medical professional or medical facility negligently fails to properly diagnose and treat a complication a patient develops after a surgery, the patient can sustain impactful injuries.

No patient should have to be subjected to harmful post-surgical negligence. One hopes that medical professionals and medical facilities are held accountable when they engage in such negligence.

A case has recently arisen involving allegations of post-surgical negligence. The case involves a woman who had a hysterectomy performed on her in August 2010. The procedure was performed at a hospital in Louisiana.

The woman alleges that the hospital, its staff and doctors at it acted negligently after her surgery. Included among the woman's allegations are claims that these parties:

  • Failed to properly monitor her condition after the surgery.
  • Failed to conduct tests that they should have.
  • Failed to properly diagnose and treat complications she developed.

The woman claims that this alleged negligence caused her to suffer multiple harms.

A lawsuit has been brought by the woman and her husband in a court in Louisiana in connection to these claims. The lawsuit names the hospital, the hospital's staff and several doctors as defendants. The woman and her husband are asking for damages in this lawsuit. It will be interesting to see what happens in this case and how it is ultimately resolved.
