Jury rules against doctor in wrongful death case

When a doctor acts negligently during the course of providing a patient with medical care, it can cause the patient to suffer a great deal of harm. Sadly, medical negligence can sometimes even result in a patient's death. Thus, it is very important for medical professionals to act properly when it comes to patient care.

Recently, a jury reached its verdict in a wrongful death case that involved allegations of medical negligence. The case was from California. The case involved a woman who underwent a surgery in July 2009. The surgery in question was a heart surgery.

The woman's daughter alleged that the woman's cardiologist committed negligence in connection to care he provided the woman after the surgery. Specifically, the woman's daughter claimed that the cardiologist failed to properly monitor what effects a medication he prescribed the woman (Coumadin) was having on the woman and failed to test the woman's blood on as frequent of a basis as he should have.

According to the woman's daughter, this alleged negligence resulted in the woman's death. The woman's death reportedly occurred around a month after the surgery.

A lawsuit was brought in a court in California by the woman's daughter against the above-mentioned cardiologist in connection to the above allegations. A trial was held on this matter. The trial reportedly lasted for a month. Last week, the jury in this case reached its decision. The jury ruled in favor of the woman's daughter and awarded her a monetary judgment.

No patient should have to suffer harm or lose his or her life because a medical professional committed negligence. Thus, one hopes that all medical professionals make sure to not act negligently in regards to the care of patients.
