It is very important for medical professionals and hospitals to not act negligently when providing care in connection to a child's birth. Such negligence can be very harmful. For example, such negligence can result in infants suffering impactful birth injuries.
Recently, a case involving allegations of the above-mentioned type of negligence has arisen in West Virginia. The case involves a hospital in West Virginia.
Reportedly, in July of 2010, a woman gave birth to a daughter at this hospital.
The woman and her husband allege that negligence occurred in connection to the care the hospital provided in relation to their daughter's birth. According to the woman and her husband, this alleged negligence included a failure to properly read fetal heart monitor results, a failure in monitoring and a negligent delay in the performance of a cesarean section.
The woman and her husband claim that this alleged negligence caused their daughter to suffer a brain injury and a variety of different neurological and developmental problems.
The woman and her husband have brought a lawsuit in a court in West Virginia against the above-mentioned hospital in relation to these allegations. Reportedly, compensatory damages are being sought in this lawsuit. One wonders what will ultimately happen in this birth injury case.
As the allegations in this case underscore, great harm can be caused when medical professionals or hospitals fail to act properly during the course of providing care related to a child's birth. Thus, one hopes that medical professionals and hospitals are held accountable when they commit negligence like that alleged in this case.
