No patient should have to be subjected to surgical negligence. When a hospital or medical professional acts negligently when providing a patient with surgical care, it can result in the patient suffering great harm. Thus, it is very important for medical professionals and hospitals to not commit negligence when it comes to surgical procedures.
Recently, a settlement was reached in a medical negligence case from Ohio involving a surgery. The case involves a man who reportedly underwent a kidney surgery at a Veterans Affairs hospital in Ohio in May of 2008.
The man claimed that he received negligent care in connection to this surgical procedure. Specifically, he alleged that two surgical towels were negligently left inside of him. According to the man, this alleged surgical error caused him to suffer harm.
The man brought a lawsuit in connection to these allegations. As we mentioned above, this lawsuit was recently settled. According to the Reuters article which reported this story, as part of this settlement, the man will receive a monetary payment.
As the allegations that were made in this recently settled case demonstrate, patients can suffer great harm when a hospital or medical professional acts negligently during a surgical procedure. No patient should have to experience a surgical error (such as having an object mistakenly left inside of them) because a hospital or medical professional committed negligence. Thus, one hopes that medical professionals and hospitals are held accountable when they commit negligence like that which was alleged in the above-mentioned case.
