Decision reached in infant wrongful death case

It can be very harmful when a hospital or medical professional acts negligently when providing care to an infant. Sadly, such negligence can sometimes even result in an infant's death. No parent should have to experience the loss of a child because a hospital or medical professional acted negligently.

Recently, a verdict was reached in a wrongful death case involving an infant. The case involved a Massachusetts hospital that reportedly provided care to a premature infant in 2004. Allegedly, while the infant was a patient of the hospital, she died of necrotizing enterocolitis.

The infant's parents claimed that the infant received negligent care while at the hospital. Specifically, they alleged that the hospital's staff failed to properly respond to symptoms the infant showed. The parents claimed that this alleged negligence contributed to the infant's death.

The infant's parents brought a wrongful death lawsuit in Massachusetts against the hospital in connection to these allegations. As we mentioned above, a jury recently reached its decision in this case. The jury ruled in favor of the infant's parents and awarded them a large monetary judgment.

As this case illustrates, when hospitals or medical professionals provide infants with negligent care, the results can sometimes be fatal. Thus, one hopes that medical professionals and hospitals will make sure to act properly when providing infants with care. One also hopes that medical professionals and hospitals are held accountable when they act negligently in connection to the care of an infant and such negligence results in the infant dying.
