A patient can suffer great harm when a condition he or she suffers from is misdiagnosed due to negligence on the part of a medical professional. This can particularly be the case when the condition in question is cancer. Thus, it is extremely important for medical professionals to not act negligently when diagnosing a patient.
Recently, a medical negligence case has arisen in Illinois involving allegations of a misdiagnosis. The case involves a man who reportedly had a lump on the side of his neck. This lump was allegedly removed in 2009. According to the man, the lump was diagnosed as an infected cyst by an Illinois doctor. The man claims that this was a misdiagnosis.
Allegedly, the lump later returned. The man claims that, at this point, he was informed that the lump was, in fact, cancer. According to the man, he was also told that the cancer had spread.
The man has accused the Illinois doctor of negligence in regards to the above-mentioned alleged misdiagnosis. A lawsuit has been brought in Illinois by the man and his wife against the doctor in connection to these allegations.
As the allegations in this case demonstrate, it can be very harmful when a medical professional negligently misdiagnoses a condition that a patient suffers from. Such negligence can delay treatment of a condition and can allow a condition to spread. Thus, one hopes that medical professionals make sure to provide patients with nothing but quality care when diagnosing them and to not expose patients to harmful medical negligence.
