It is extremely important for medical professionals to not act negligently when providing care in connection to the birth of a child. Such negligence can be extremely harmful. For example, it can result in a child suffering birth injuries. Such injuries can have major impacts on a child throughout his or her life.
Recently, a jury reached its decision in a medical malpractice case in Connecticut involving birth injuries. The case involves a woman who received care from a doctor from Stamford in connection to the birth of her son in 2003.
The woman and her husband claimed that the doctor committed a variety of negligent conduct when providing this care including failing to take proper actions in connection to the child's delivery and delaying performing a caesarean section.
According to the woman and her husband, this negligence resulted in their son suffering permanent brain damage.
A lawsuit was brought in Connecticut by the woman and her husband against the doctor and his practice in connection to these allegations. A jury heard this case and reached its decision on Wednesday. The jury issued a verdict in favor of the woman and her husband and awarded them a large monetary judgment. In fact, it was the largest judgment ever awarded in a Connecticut medical malpractice case.
No child should have to suffer major injuries because doctors made negligent mistakes in connection to his or her delivery. Thus one hopes that doctors who give care during pregnancies and deliveries make sure to avoid negligent conduct like that alleged in this case. One also hopes doctors are held accountable when they do engage in medical negligence and such negligence results in a child suffering birth injuries.
